The new Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville, dropped in to the growbox garden for an impromptu visit on a freezing January morning. Shrubland gardeners John, Marloes, Marjon and Peter were there to show him around and discuss upcoming projects.
He told them he regularly used to walk down Shrubland Road on his daily commute to Shoreditch as a ward councillor and was impressed to see how the gardens have sprung up in the disused car parks.
He takes a keen interest in community initiatives such as this, and was particularly interested to hear how the growing project is to link up with the Shrubland Street Food Festival this July, and even made an on-the-spot, enthusiastic commitment to attend!
