After one of the coldest and wettest Springs on record, optimistic Shrubland gardeners met up to survey the winter damage and plan their year ahead. There was a good sort out of the seed box, and liberal swapping of seedlings and plants between plot holders. After a long day, cheer was provided by a test firing of the community’s new wood fired pizza oven.
Team effort fired a total of 24 pizzas and was pronounced a great success. TRA treasurer Peter Jarvis said ‘everyone has their favourite toppings, but for me the thing is the crust, and I’ve never tasted one quite like this, something you cant quite put your finger on, something extra. Just fanatastic!’
Over the year, a number of plot holders sadly have moved away from Shrubland Road, their boxes becoming available for a welcome injection of fresh growing talent to the garden. Some are beginners with little or no experience of growing their own vegetables and fruit, and some with seasoned green fingers looking forward to growing some old favourites, savouring the quality and flavour, and saving money besides.
