Shrubland TRA has won Big Lottery funding for a street growing and cooking project. The Big Lottery Celebrate England grants were for holding a one off event which celebrates a local community. The TRA’s successful bid was for a Community Growing and Cooking Project which celebrates and shares the cultural diversity of Shrubland Road.
The money will go towards helping residents do more growing, and to help teach other residents to cook. The project will culminate in a Street Food Festival as part of the Shrubland Road Street Party 2017, to be held on on Sunday 23rd July.
There will be more planters put down in the grow box areas so that we can grow vegetables and herbs that we can use in the cooking sessions. A gardening club is being set up which will allow residents to learn how to grow food, and so take part in the food growing part of the project, without necessarily having their own growbox.
We are asking residents in the street to share their cooking practices with their neighbours to teach them to cook different dishes. If you are interested in learning to cook a new dish, sharing a recipe, and even teaching your neighbours how to make it, follow the link below and complete the survey. Further details to follow.
