Ahoy there! – a Canal Cruise with the history boys

Thanks again Peter for organising this lovely sedate trip up through Victoria Park from Laburnum Boat club. Local knowledge of passing landmarks provided by Peter and John.

John remembered when the horses used to pull the barges up the canal and also the old ice factory by Haggerston park that loaded huge chunks of ice onto a horse and cart to distribute around the area (he and his friends would follow behind to try and get ice shards that chipped off! ) Peters suffragette history came in handy too.

Cake courtesy of the apples grown in Pat’s garden.
