The community kitchen was funded through the Big Lottery Celebrate England fund. The vision of the community kitchen is to build on the success of the community garden by bringing the different cultures from the street together to cook dishes from their culture to share with their neighbours and other residents in the street. After cooking of course we all sit together to eat and talk.
The sessions are held on a mobile kitchen unit built by Maz and take place in the community garden.
We aim to use ingredients harvested from the garden or ones we are growing and will be harvesting soon.
A number of sessions have been held since the beginning of the summer and the community kitchen will be in full use at the street party.
All sessions are open to anyone in the street and recipes will be shared here and will also be put together in a recipe book. The recipe book will be published later this year.
So far 23 households (55 individuals) from Shrubland Road have attended a Community Kitchen session in the garden.
